Insecta

I don’t know why insects fascinate me so much. What’s more, this interest developed in adulthood. As a child I was rather tomboyish, but I don’t remember ever being particularly drawn to insects or studying them closely. Over the past few years, however, I’ve found every kind of beetle utterly delightful.
Perhaps it has something to do with the phase of “exploration and discovery in the woods” that I went through with our children when they were small. We would wander along the paths with a small glass jar with a perforated lid, bringing home some tiny creature we had found along the way. The colours of their shells, their shapes, their flight paths, their wings.
Stings or bites don’t worry me. Instinctively, I feel the need to touch, turn them over, and admire them thoroughly.
