Asparagi

This small project was born out of a conversation with a friend. While we were hanging posters around the city to invite the people of Graz to open their eyes and stand up for art, against cuts to culture, we also amused ourselves by exchanging recipes.

It was asparagus season, so we talked at length about it—the different varieties, colors, textures, and flavors.

On another occasion, she asked me to make her a pendant, and I couldn’t resist the idea of creating a small bunch of asparagus she could carry with her at all times.

Here is the recipe for achieving the perfect Asparagi:

  • Take fresh asparagus from the market and bring them into the studio.
  • Choose which wax to use to create a miniature copy of the originals.
  • Spend some time enjoying the wax-modeling technique—it requires patience and a cool head.
  • Once the small bundle is finished, take it to the workshop for a fine lost-wax casting.
