The almost finished tin

I built this box with the intention of providing a display surface for the silver plate soldered onto the lid. Here, the acid acted around wax that I had spread on a copper sheet. I then connected the two parts, silver and brass, and soldered them to the lid.
The small box is more of a sketch than a finished object, yet it radiates its own charm despite its imperfections.

Lichens are the result of a close relationship between fungi and algae. Together, they form a single organism capable of surviving in extreme conditions. Lichens grow slowly on rocks, bark, and abandoned surfaces, where almost nothing else can live.

You know this about me: I collect insects that have already reached the end of their life, wherever I happen to find them, and I try to pay them homage by incorporating them into small projects.
Here, a bee has been immersed in a copper bath. A very thin layer of copper slowly formed on its body, completely covering it. Placed on a small silver box, it evokes the quiet balance of a still life and the reflective weight of a memento mori.

Wonderful pattern

I’m not entirely sure how I achieved this effect. The corrosion caused by the acids has taken its course on the brass plate, and the surface now recalls the almost crumbling wall of a Venetian house. The colour is equally intriguing: the plate appears to be made of a brass alloy with a high copper content, which gives rise to this antique pink tone.

Beginner’s luck played its part: it came out precise on the first attempt. For all the pieces that followed, I had to work twice as hard.
