I made this brooch for Lis’s birthday. I worked in a very impulsive and spontaneous way. I knew where I wanted to go, but not yet how to get there. The result is, in some ways, a rough object, almost a three-dimensional sketch — but it works and has a strength of its own.

This brooch was born from the need to present a lichen in its natural state. It is the first piece, created after a series of studies on paper. I wanted to offer the lichen a base on which to rest and to be shown outside its original environment. The brass structure and the scalloped edges, which follow the organic movement of the organism, are meant to emphasize its forms.
I gave it to Peter for his birthday, because it is delicate, composed, and elegant — like him. I also enjoy seeing it pinned to his jacket: it is a good thing that men adorn themselves too.

When I was a child, harmony seemed possible. Today, by contrast, our continent appears fragile, torn, unstable. New generations are growing up in a climate of tension and uncertainty that is increasingly difficult to navigate.
This sense of disorder and disorientation shaped my series “Europa – Fragile Bond.”
Five brooches, a necklace, and an object speak of what still remains — and of what risks disappearing. The etched surfaces bear traces of wounds and of the time that has inscribed them. Only the adhesive tape — spared from the acid bath — suggests that a bond, however provisional, may still exist.
The necklace is an embrace: that of Mother Europe, attempting to hold her people together.
My work is an invitation to look beyond the image, to remember that Europe is ourselves — and that its future can still be written.
